Cleveland 9, NYY 8

October 7, 2017 – 7:18 am

It’s one thing to just get flat out beat by a better team, but it’s a totally different thing to actually outplay that team but lose because of an endless stream of screw ups. Sheez, CC Sabathia outpitches the Cy Young winner, staking you to an 8-3 lead and your bullpen blows that lead in just three innings? Joe Girardi has a total mind freeze and chooses not to contest an obviously bad HBP call? Ronald Torreyes is the potential winning run at second base with no outs and the top of the lineup hitting, and he gets picked off? After Betances put the winning run on first base, Girardi leaves him in when that runner was 100% guaranteed to steal second on Betances and thus get in easy scoring position?

Man, there were some ugly losses along the way this year, but this one tops the list.
