Toronto 2, NYY 1

October 2, 2017 – 7:24 am

And so this rather incredible season comes to an end, with the Yankees winning a stunning 91 games, 20 over .500. It’s really been a tale of two different teams. For the first 66 games they were 10 games over .500. Then mediocrity set in, and for the next 70 games they played .500 ball. But then all of a sudden they got over some injuries and Aaron Judge started returning to his early season form, and for the final 26 games of the season, they went 18-8 (a .692 clip).

So now it’s a one-game crap shoot to see if they get to play further in October. The idea of playing 162 games to see who makes it to the post-season, and then to have this roll-the-dice format for the two wildcard teams is stupidity at it’s best. But what ya’ gonna do?
