Cleveland 5, NYY 1

August 4, 2017 – 7:51 am

With Corey Kluber starting for Cleveland and with the Yankee offense mired in a slump, this game was as predictable as it gets. To Joe Girardi’s credit, he did sit out Holliday and Judge, knowing that they certainly weren’t going to break out of their slumps going up against Kluber. I guess the good news in this one was that Sonny Gray pitched reasonably well in his Yankee debut. Particularly nice to see him come back strong after the Yankee defense was so horrid in the first inning. Effectively he went six innings and gave up just two runs. If he continues to do that on a regular basis, he’ll be a strong addition to the starting rotation.
