Nice bounce back by the offense after being shut down the previous night by Miguel Gonzalez. This early in the season you are understandably nervous that the strong offensive showing is just a fluke, and that it will eventually return to what we saw much of last year. So anytime they get shut down for one game, it’s easy to think “Oh no, here we go down the tubes”. So that’s what made the offensive outburst in this one so nice. And it wasn’t just one or two players — everyone in the starting lineup got at least one hit, and everyone scored at least one run or got one RBI. It doesn’t get more balanced than that.
And the icing on the cake here was a quality start from Tanaka. Now the talking heads seemed to think he’s was struggling a bit and didn’t have his “good stuff”, but you could have fooled me. Over 7 innings he gave up 1 ER on 6 H with 6 Ks. On a per game basis, all three of those stats are better than what he did last year. So if in fact he was struggling, I can’t wait to see what he’s like when he isn’t struggling!
