Baltimore 11, NYY 5

August 1, 2012 – 9:53 am

The ugliness continues. For one brief half-inning it looked like the Yankees were going to snap out of the coma they’ve been in for the last 12 games, but then it took Ivan Nova all of two-thirds of an inning to totally destroy that illusion. Has anyone ever in the history of the game given up 7 runs immediately after being gifted a 5 run lead in the first inning? Elias Sports Bureau, are you on the case?

So the month of July, which started out so great, ends in a push. On July 1 the Yanks were 17 games over .500 with a 6 game lead in the East. Now they are 16 games over with a 5.5 game lead. Time to get things back in gear.
