Oakland 4, NYY 3

July 20, 2012 – 11:43 am

Oakland has the worst offense in the AL (3.8 R/G) along with the best pitching (3.7 R/G). So the last thing you want to do is spot them a 4-0 lead after 2.1 innings — which is exactly what Freddy Garcia did. After a couple of good starts, Garcia seems to be regressing back to where he was at the start of the season, which is clearly not a good thing. But then David Phelps is back up from his odd-man-out stint at Scranton, and there couldn’t have been a more stark contrast between him and Garcia, as he mowed through the Athletics lineup after he took over for Garcia, getting all 7 batters he faced out with ease, including 4 Ks. I gotta believe next time through the rotation it will be Phelps in the No. 5 position, not Garcia. Right?
