NYY 6, Boston 1

July 7, 2012 – 3:26 pm

Now that’s the way you pitch with a lead. Hopefully Hiroki Kuroda was paying attention to Freddy Garcia, as the Yankees gave Garcia a big first inning lead just like they did for Kuroda last night, only Freddy knew exactly what to do with it — shutting the Red Sox out not only in the bottom of the first, but keeping them from even getting close to getting back in the ball game for 6.2 innings. Since returning to the rotation, Garcia has been looking like his 2011 version. Welcome back, Freddy.

And what a nice game from Andruw Jones, who’s been flying somewhat under the radar of late. Not only did he flash some leather with a great catch and double play, he hit two solo home runs. Over his last seven games, he’s 8-for-21 (.381) with 5 RBIs. If only he could hit righties, hey?
