NYY 4, Washington 1

June 18, 2012 – 9:35 am

Yet another trademark win for this team — great starting pitching, pathetic hitting with RISP, combined with two home runs and a couple of other cheap runs. Add it up, and it’s the ninth win in a row for the Yankees. And don’t look now, but guess who is leading the AL pitchers in wins? Yep, Ivan Nova notched his ninth win, while incredibly sporting an ERA that is still a rather average 4.32. But that’s coming down pretty steadily — over his last 6 starts it’s 3.19, and over his last 2 starts it’s a miniscule 0.61.

Tonight CC Sabathia tries to make it 10 in a row. Who would have thunk at this point in the season CC would be the weak link in the rotation? And yet, there it is — over the last month, CC has the highest ERA of the starters, the only one with an ERA over 4 (4.17). The pressure is on, CC — let’s see what you got!
