NYY 5, Detroit 1

June 3, 2012 – 7:09 pm

Nice bounce back win for the team after that ugly loss yesterday, and even nicer bounce back for Phil Hughes after his last start in LA. Even though the offense was still MIA with RISP (1-for-11), at least they got some decent production out of the 3-4-5 positions (3 hits, 3 RBIs, 2 runs). But the really good news is that Hughes was quite impressive, out-dueling Justin Verlander. If not for one bad pitch to Fielder, he would have recorded a complete game shutout. As it were, a 4-hit, 1-run complete game is proof enough for me that the last outing was indeed the exception and Hughes is a legitimate No.3-type starter.
