Cincinnati 6, NYY 5

May 20, 2012 – 11:38 am

Ivan Nova continues to be an enigma. You would think 12 Ks and 2 BBs over 6 innings would be a nice outing — yet somehow of the 12 hitters to put the ball in play, 7 went for hits. And there you go, 5 earned runs, which is way too much for the woeful Yankee offense to overcome these days. A big part of his problem this year is a BAbip of .393 — in 2010 that number was .296 and last year it was .284. So hopefully he’ll start regressing to those lower numbers, fewer balls in play will result in runs, and he can end up winning games like this when the Yankee offense does it’s typical no-show.
