So Much For Fairy Tale Endings

Wow, it sure wasn’t supposed to end like this. I had visions of Mo closing the last game of the 2012 World Series for one last ring, and then announcing his retirement, going out in a blaze of glory. With Andy Pettitte’s announcement earlier this season that he would be re-joining the team, it seemed like the perfect setup for the perfect ending. Derek Jeter capping one of the best comeback seasons the game has ever known, Pettitte maybe even starting that last game of the WS, and then of course Rivera on the mound as the Yankees won No. 28.

But alas, this is the real world, stuff happens, and there are very few fairly tale endings. That’s why they are called “fairy tales”. I guess now the hope becomes the Yankees can turn things around and “win one for the Gipper Mo”. Sadly, the way they are playing lately, that seems to also be quite the “fairy tale”.
