NYY 2, Baltimore 1

May 1, 2012 – 10:09 am

That’s back-to-back quality starts for Hiroki Kuroda, as at least the top of the starting rotation is starting to perform up to expectations. This one was quite the old-fashioned pitcher’s duel. As good as Kuroda was, Jason Hammel was matching up nicely — except for one bad pitch, a fastball right down the middle of the plate that Eric Chavez took yard for the two runs that would be enough for the win. And then in the seventh, Kuroda mysteriously lost all control, hitting a batter and throwing two wild pitches. But yet once again, the baseball gods seemed to be smiling on the Yankees, as the last WP ended up with Nick Markakis getting tagged out at home. And that was the ball game.
