Detroit 7, NYY 5

What an incredible contrast in pitching performances. While Freddy Garcia was throwing BP for the third start in a row, Drew Smyly had the Yankee hitters on their heels all day. It was Smyly’s first career win, and it looks like he’s going to be a very good pitcher. On the flip side, it would appear that Garcia’s long career is coming to a quick end. I can’t imagine the Yankees will give him another start — although I said the same thing after his last stinker.
