Tampa Bay 15, NYY 8

September 23, 2011 – 10:12 am

Whatever happened to that “luxury” we had of six starting pitchers from which the four best would be used in the postseason? It’s now pretty obvious that Bartolo Colon, as great as he has been for most of the year, is just out of gas (and quite understandably). Whatever is wrong with A.J. Burnett just seems to be getting worse and worse. Phil Hughes hasn’t pitched well of late, and now has injury issues to boot. And whatever magic Freddy Garcia was using earlier in the season seems to have disappeared. So with the post-season just one week away, we’ve really only got two legitimate starters in CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova. That’s not promising at all. Every third and fourth game is going to be scary as hell. I guess the good news is that the bullpen continues to pitch lights out, so they may have to be the saving grace.
