CC Needs To Turn This Trend Around

August 6, 2011 – 8:33 pm

Boston 10, NYY 4.

  • It was easy enough to discount CC Sabathia’s poor record against Boston going into this game as just random variation due to small sample size. But after Saturday’s awful performance, it’s a lot more difficult to say there’s nothing to this. This is three straight starts against the Red Sox where CC has given up more than one run per inning, and he’s now 0-4 against them for the year. And of course what makes this all the more cause for concern is that the Yankees could easily end up facing the Red Sox in the post-season in a seven game series — in which case CC will have at least two starts, and possibly three. We’ve got two more regular season series against them, and hopefully the rotation will line up so that CC gets starts in both of them and is able to turn this trend around.
  • And of course there’s also the matter of the Red Sox dominating all the Yankee starters, not just CC, as the season record is now an ugly 2-9. Sure would be nice to see the offense come alive tomorrow against Josh Beckett, and also have Freddy Garcia throw yet another good game. In fact, I’m officially calling tomorrow night’s game a “big game” — if the Yankees can win it and take the series, that will be a huge win.
