I Miss The Boss

June 10, 2011 – 11:36 am

The BossBoston 8, NYY 3. Man does this team miss George Steinbrenner. Right now the Yankees are just going through the motions, playing totally uninspired baseball, and no one seems to give a rat’s ass. What do you think The Boss’ reaction would be to getting swept by the Red Sox at home for the second time in a row, this time by a combined score of 25-13, with your number one and two pitchers giving up respectively six and eight runs? Don’t you know he would be reaming out players and lighting fires in the locker room? I’ve often complained that there’s been a lack of real motivation in this team ever since they hit the skids last August. When things are going good, the calm nature of Captain Jeter and Skipper Joe work fine. But when things start to go down the crapper, there’s no one around to fire up this group of overpaid, under-performing, sleep-walking adolescents.

This weekend series will be a telling one, me thinks. Cleveland is rapidly regressing to the sub-500 team they were predicted to be, so now is the perfect time for the Yankees to start playing somewhere close to their potential. At this point last year they had already run off winning streaks of 5+ games three different times. So far this year, the best they have done is three in a row. Time to start playing like real Yankees, and sweep the Indians.
