Living By The Home Run

June 6, 2011 – 11:19 am

NYY 5, LA Angels 3.

  • Once again almost all (four of five) Yankee runs came via the home run. Maybe this can go on forever? The Yankees lead the AL in R/G, 5.14 compared to second place Boston at 4.92. Yet the team BA is .251, ranking ninth. Pretty amazing.
  • David Robertson continued his Houdini act, walking the number eight and nine hitters to load the bases in the sixth, putting the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position, but then striking out Izturis to get out of the inning. D-Rob sports an amazing 14.7 K/9 ratio, more than twice the league average of 6.7 — and yet also has a 6.9 BB/9 ratio, also twice the league average. He certainly makes things exciting!
  • Brett Gardner had another 2-hit night, so there is indeed a glimmer of hope that he’s getting back on track. Nick Swisher also got a home run, and Posada went 2-for-4. Combined the bottom of the order went 5-for-15 with 2 RBIs. We need more of that.
