And The Beat Goes On

Boston 5, NYY 4. If you are going to beat Boston and Clay Buchholz you need to bring your A game, and unfortunately right now the Yankees don’t even have a B game, much less an A game. A C- would be a generous grade, and if it weren’t for the starting pitching, it would be an F. Once again, the offense was anemic, going a predictable 1-for-7 with RISP. And once again, sloppy defense played a big part in the loss, with a passed ball accounting for one run, and a botched double play leading to at least one other run.

Not much else you can say here — the East is shaping up to be even tougher than anyone imagined, and the Yankees are slipping fast, having gone 3-7 in the last ten games. Only other AL teams to match that are Minnesota and Seattle, and they are both in last place in their divisions. If the Yankees don’t turn things around quickly, last in the East is not inconceivable.
