Shades Of 2008

Detroit 3, NYY 1. The Yankees were facing yet another starter they had never seen before, so I guess this one was totally predictable — and sure enough, they got shut out again on two hits. At least this time it was by a pitcher with some fairly decent credentials — Max Scherzer did have 16 career wins and does sport a career 3.92 ERA. But the fact remains that the Yankees are playing pretty mediocre, uninspired baseball right now. Over their last 24 games, they are exactly .500. They just split a 4-game series with the lowly Kansas City Royals, and now unless they win the next three games, they will split — at best — against a struggling Detroit Tigers team, which has gone all of 9-22 since the All-Star break.

Someone needs to take charge and light a fire under everyone’s asses. Right now this team looks a lot like the team of two years ago, going no where fast, and not even seeming to care about it.
