And It Ain’t Going To Get Any Easier

New York Mets 4, NYY 0. And it just gets uglier and uglier for the Yankee offense, this time getting shut out by Hisanori Takahashi and the Mets bullpen. Unlike the previous two games where they only got four and five hits, at least tonight they managed eight hits. But they went 0-for-9 with RISP — with seven of those opportunities wasted in the last three innings. And yet another excellent start got wasted, as Javier Vazquez went seven innings and gave up just one run. In his last four starts, Vazquez has gone seven innings in each one while giving up three or fewer runs. He’s definitely got his season back on track. Right now, with the obvious exception of A.J. Burnett, the Yankee starting rotation is as solid as it gets. But with the offense’s latest disappearing act, it doesn’t really matter what type pitching you get.

And alas, things are just going to get tougher and tougher for the Yankee hitters, as they go up against Mike Pelfrey (2.39 ERA) on Saturday and then Johan Santana (3.13 ERA) on Sunday. If you can’t score against average pitchers like Jamie Moyer, Kyle Kendrick, and Takahashi, things could get even uglier this weekend.
