CC Just Gets The Job Done

June 10, 2010 – 12:22 pm

NYY 4, Baltimore 2. Once again CC Sabathia wasn’t at his top form, but fortunately this was the Baltimore Orioles he was facing, and so he somehow ended up with a “quality start” and the win. CC gave up 9 hits and 3 walks over seven innings, but the Orioles were only able to score twice. He did strike out eight, and three of those were ending-inning Ks with runners in scoring position. So it did seem like CC could crank it up when he really needed to.

What kept the game close was the fact that the Yankees were just as ineffectual in turning hits and walks in to runs as the Orioles were. They ended up with 11 hits and 5 walks, but only the 4 runs to show for it. Once again it was Robbie Cano leading the offense, going 3-for-4, yet another multi-hit game. Robbie has clearly recovered from that horrendous slump he was in where he went all of three games with but one hit. Over the last 14 games he now has multiple hits in 11 of those. And speaking of horrendous slumps, that stranger batting in the number three spot had his second multi-hit game in a row, going 2-for-5 with a double.  Just who could that be there?

So now it’s up to A.J. Burnett to complete the sweep of the poor Orioles, whom the Yankees have new beaten in ten straight games. It’s Good A.J.’s turn up in the Burnett rotation, so the sweep should be in order.
