Can’t Get Back To NY Fast Enough

May 13, 2010 – 10:11 pm

Detroit 6, NYY 0. So much for that ninth inning outburst yesterday being a sign that the offense is waking up. Admittedly this was against Justin Verlander, so getting shut out on just four hits in this one game isn’t all that worrisome by itself. But this makes two shutouts in two days. Take away the ninth inning of yesterday’s game and the Yankees scored all of six runs in this four game series.

Not that it mattered with the Yankees being shut out, but CC Sabathia had his worst outing since his first start of the season. He was continually leaving balls up in the zone, and the Tigers were more than happy to take advantage. Of nine hits, four were for extra bases, two were home runs. I guess the good news here is that if CC is going to have a bad outing, might as well do it on a day when the Yankees weren’t going to win anyway.

So it’s back to the Bronx for a seven-game home stand against the Central-leading Twins, the always troublesome Red Sox, and then the East-leading Rays. Time to pick it up a notch.
