Godzilla + CC For The Win

August 14, 2009 – 12:14 pm

NYY 11 Seattle 1. CC Sabathia vs. Ian Snell had mismatch written all over it, and sure enough that’s what we got. CC pitched yet another gem — 8 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, and a season-high 10 Ks. That’s pretty much vintage CC, and hopefully what we’ll be seeing a lot of over the next two months. With A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte also pitching extremely well right now, that gives the Yankees a very solid 1-2-3 rotation. Even with the unpredictable Joba Chamberlain in the No. 4 slot, and a cast of others filling the No. 5 and 6 slot, the starting pitching looks solid.

CC At His BestAnd offensively, the Yankees continue to pound the ball all through the lineup. You know things are going well when you can rest both your regular No. 4 and No. 5 hitters, and still score 11 runs on 15 hits. With Hideki Matsui hitting cleanup, you hardly knew A-Rod wasn’t even playing, as Godzilla went 4-for-5 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs. For the month of August, Matsui’s numbers are .343/.378/.714 with a 1.093 OPS. And on top of that, you had Jerry Hairston subbing at third, and going 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs of his own. I wonder if Alex is starting to worry about his job security?
