So Much For “Franchise”

Baltimore 12, NYY 6. What a let down after yesterday’s game. We go from CC’s brilliant shutout to Phil Hughes stinking the place up with 8 runs allowed in less than 2 innings. What we saw was reality slapping the Yankees upside the face.  Hughes is still quite young — he won’t turn 23 until next month –so maybe he still needs more time in the minors to develop. Hopefully we’ll only see one more start from Hughes before Chien-Ming Wang is back in the rotation, and hopefully Hughes will continue to progress in AAA ball, where he would seem to clearly belong right now.

If the Yankees lose today, that would mean they will have lost three straight series to East opponents. And next week they go up against Toronto, who currently has the best record in the AL. With Roy Halladay on the mound. Yikes.
