Hits For Everyone

April 30, 2009 – 9:59 pm

NYY 7, Los Angeles 4.  Pretty good team effort in this one.  Everyone in the lineup got at least one hit and either scored a run or drove one in.  And it was fun to see Robbie Cano and Melky Cabrera team up on the game-winning run, which was quickly followed by a 2-run scoring double by Ramiro Pena.  Pena is only in there for his defense, so when he contributes with his bat it’s a big plus.  Nice to see all the younger Yankees putting this one in the W column.

A.J. Burnett rebounded nicely from his previous disastrous start at Boston — he didn’t look nearly as sharp as he did in his first three starts, but hey — no one pitches lights out every start.  He got the job done — scattering 8 hits over 7 innings, leaving with the game tied 4-4.  That’s what starters are supposed to do when they don’t have their best stuff — give the team a chance to win.  So A.J. did his job, the offense came through in the 8th, and now the Yankees have come back from that 4-game losing streak with a 3-game winning streak.  April ends on a very positive note!
