Blame It On Cosmic Forces

Boston 4, NYY 1.  About all you can do with this series is just chalk it up to the alignment of the stars, and move on.  The Yankees lose game one when Mario Rivera blows a save — something he did only once all of last year.  That’s clearly a fluke.  Then they lose game two when A.J. Burnett gives up 8 runs in 5 innings — something he did only twice all of last year.  And then in game three the Yankee bats can only muster 1 run — the only time that has happened so far this year.  Combine all that with playing the hottest team in baseball right now on their home turf — and getting swept doesn’t look as terrible as it does at first glance.

That said, though, they now visit the East-leading Detroit Tigers and they’ve got their three question mark starters scheduled.  Time for CC and Joba to take it up a notch, and insure a series win.  And if Phil Hughes can start to show some of what we’ve been promised for so long, that would be all the better!
