Deja Vu All Over Again

April 13, 2009 – 10:14 pm

Tampa Bay 15, NYY 5.  Yes, it’s still way too early in the season to panic, this was only one game, yada, yada, yada.  But still you can’t help but have a sense of deja vu here.  Once again, the Yankees are just not getting off to a good start at all.  They opened the season against two of the weakest teams in the league and could only go .500, and now they’re up against the defending league champs and sure enough they get romped.  Chien-Ming Wang had yet another terrible start — something ain’t right there.  Mark Teixeira has now missed three games — one has to wonder if maybe there’s more to that mysterious injury than the Yankees are letting on to.  And of course, Alex Rodriguez has yet to play a game so who knows when he will be back to 100%.  There’s also Hideki Matsui who is struggling and just doesn’t look right.  Bottom line is there’s lots to be worried about here.

So once again it’s up to A.J. Burnett to stop the bleeding tomorrow night.  Hopefully he will be up to the task, as there ain’t going to be much left in the bullpen after tonight’s massacre.  Except for Nick Swisher of course, he of the 0.00 ERA!
