Our Manny

WTF-RodWhat the sam hill is going on with A-Rod?  Sheez, it’s getting harder and harder — no, make that flat out impossible — to defend this guy anymore.  Back in the days when he was with the Rangers, it sure seemed to me like he was just a normal guy with an unbelievable amount of talent who was at times just overwhelmed by his celebrity.  I know that while in Texas Tom Hicks played him the fool on many an occasion.  And having the likes of Scott Boras for an agent certainly didn’t help.  So when he arrived in New York, I thought much of his “A-Fraud” reputation was undeserved.  But my how things have changed.  About the only thing that surprises me lately is that there’s been no conspiracy theories floating around about what a timely coincidence A-Rod’s labrum tear and subsequent surgery was.  He will now be able to avoid all the steroid stories for at least two months, at which point maybe they will have subsided some?  I would like to think he will quickly learn his lessons and turn things around…. but I suspect that’s a pipe dream.  The next nine years are going to be interesting.  I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be a loyal Red Sox fan and have to somehow tolerate and cheer for Manny.  But now it’s starting to look more and more like we have our own Manny.  Argh.
