Sir Sidney To The Rescue

August 6, 2008 – 11:21 pm

NYY 5, Texas 3.  It’s hard to believe that just ten days ago Sidney Ponson wasn’t even good enough to be the number five starter and the only question was who would be his replacement in the rotation.  But now look at Sir Sidney — he’s now the second best starter on the team.  That’s more than a little scary.  But that’s the reality of where the Yankees are right now.

The good news is that they finally managed to beat the mediocre Texas Rangers, although it certainly wasn’t pretty.  Up against a pitcher with a 10+ ERA and then a reliever with an ERA close to 8.00, the Yankees managed all of five runs.  Again, another embarrassing outing for the offense.  But at least this time the pitching was good enough to make those five runs stand up.

Now it’s up to Moose to salvage the series and get the split.
