Mailing It In?

Texas 8, NYY 6.  You have to wonder if the injury to Chamberlain will end up being the final nail in the Yankee coffin.  They’ve played a lot of uninspired baseball this year, but tonight’s game seemed to set a new low mark.  You’re up against a rookie with a 7+ ERA and all you can put up is one run on four hits?  That’s as embarrassing as it gets.  On the one hand, the fact that this team is still very much in contention inspite of all the injuries is pretty amazing.  But when you can’t beat teams like Baltimore and Texas, the reality is that you don’t deserve to make the playoffs.  Yes, there’s still a lot of baseball left to be played and they certainly aren’t out of it by any means.  But right now they only have one reliable starting pitcher, the bullpen has imploded, and the hitting is at best erratic.  And now they have to win the next two just to gain a split in this series.   Ugh.
