Bullpen Rules

NYY 10, Boston 3. Will the Yankees go undefeated the rest of the season? Will Edwar Ramirez ever give up another hit? Will Robinson Cano ever have a hitless game again? Talk about hitting on all cylinders…. the only weak link right now is Giambi, and we all know he’s a streaky hitter who will inevitably start hitting again — more likely sooner than later.

I’ve never been a big fan of “specialty” relievers who are typically brought in to face one and only one batter — but that could well be a function of following the Yankees for so long and seeing all the failures they have had at trying to do that. But maybe Dámaso Marte will make a believer out of me. With a four run lead but two on with one out in the seventh and Ortiz and Ramirez coming up, I was having flashbacks of bullpen meltdowns from the past. But Marte struck out Ortiz on four pitches (all strikes), and then Edwar emphatically closed the door by getting Ramirez to fly out. It doesn’t get much better than that.
